Departing from the Texas State Railroad depot in Palestine, this heritage rail adventure takes you through lush pine forests and rolling countryside. The train departs at 11 am sharp, we recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early to have a look around the historic train depot and make your way to your departure gate.
Whether you’re a train enthusiast or just looking to enjoy a slower pace, this ride delivers a uniquely East Texas experience.

Antique Shopping in Downtown Palestine

- Old Town Vintage & More (416 N. Houston St.) – An antique mall that has been well-curated, featuring a mix of primitives, retro accessories, and seasonal décor and home-made soaps and gifts. You might even be able to catch a DIY class. They’re usually open on Tuesday-Saturday, from 10-5.
- The Duncan Depot Antiques (106 W. Main St.) – Known for its authentic antique selection, and rare gems. Perfect for finding unique glassware, signage, and more. Have your kids with you? Lilly provides a safe kids play area inside the shop, so you don’t have to worry about little hands breaking precious artifacts. Duncan Depot is usually open to the public from 10-5 on Wednesday to Saturday.
- Star of Texas Antiques (107 W. Oak St.) – Funky and full of character, this shop specializes in one-of-a-kind pieces and architectural salvage. They’re typically open on Thursday until Saturday, from 10-5.
Tip: These three are within a block of each other, wear your comfortable shoes and visit them in one stop.

Saturday mornings in Palestine are made for wandering. Head back to Downtown Palestine for Saturdays on Main, where the Farmers Market comes alive with fresh produce, baked goods, and handmade items. Ready to get out of the heat? Head into Old Magnolia for a fresh-made sandwich lunch and check out the vendor mall while you’re there. Celebrate 125 Years of Service with the Palestine Fire Department
This year marks a major milestone for the Palestine Fire Department—125 years of service to the community! Celebrate with them on Saturday at Fire Station 1, located between Crawford and Avenue A on Elm Street.
This free event includes:
- an antique fire truck show – unique and antique fire apparatuses from across the state will be on display to the public.
- fun firefighter games – have you ever seen a pumper relay or bucket brigade?
- fire equipment demonstrations
- and so much more!
This is a rare opportunity to meet and interact with the people and equipment that have protected Palestine, TX for more than a century.
Fun Fact: Palestine’s fire department is one of the oldest continuously operating departments in East Texas.
Saturday Night Lights: TVCC Cardinals vs. Monroe Mustangs
After the fire department celebration, there’s no better way to close out a small-town Texas weekend than with a football game. This is a special game at that: catch the Trinity Valley Community College Cardinals as they take on the Monroe University Mustangs in a high-energy matchup that’s sure to draw a crowd. Monroe has traveled all the way from New York for this game, and we plan to show them some strong Southern Hospitality and spirit.
Tailgating kicks off in the afternoon with food, music, and a “Meet the Cardinals and Mustangs” session. Perfect for selfies, autographs, and pre-game hype, merchandise, vendors and food trucks will be on campus. The evening wraps with gridiron action under the lights at Wildcat Stadium.
